Former star alleges harassment and defamation for right-wing views

Gina Carano, known for her role as Cara Dune in Disney+’s hit series The Mandalorian, has taken legal action against Disney and Lucasfilm, backed by tech mogul Elon Musk.

Carano’s lawsuit comes after her abrupt dismissal from The Mandalorian following controversial social media posts where she mocked the use of face masks and made false claims about the 2020 US Presidential Election, as well as drawing comparisons between Republicanism and the Holocaust.

In response to her termination, Carano alleges she was subjected to harassment and defamation due to her right-wing political views. She claims she was fired for expressing her opinions and resisting pressure to conform to what she perceives as an extreme progressive ideology.

The lawsuit, filed this week, seeks $75,000 in damages and demands that Lucasfilm recast her role. Carano asserts that her dismissal violated her free speech rights and aims to seek vindication through legal action.

Notably, Elon Musk’s company, X Corp, has pledged financial support for Carano’s legal campaign, emphasizing its commitment to free speech and opposition to bullying, harassment, and discrimination.

Carano expressed her gratitude to Musk and X Corp for their assistance, stating her desire to resume her career in storytelling despite facing challenges and negative labels.

The legal battle between Carano and Disney/Lucasfilm underscores the ongoing debate surrounding free speech, political expression, and corporate accountability in the entertainment industry.
