Former Liberty X star opens up about overcoming addiction

Michelle Heaton, former member of Liberty X, has bravely shared her harrowing battle with alcohol and drug addiction, revealing that she had reached a point where she accepted her imminent demise. However, it was the unwavering support and inspiration from her friend Katie Price that ultimately led her to seek sobriety.

In a candid interview on the Ice Breakers podcast with hosts Matt Evers and Frankie Seaman, Heaton recounted her struggle with addiction and the pivotal role Katie Price played in her recovery journey. Despite auditioning twice for Dancing on Ice before her successful appearance in 2023, Heaton confessed to being in a “dark place” at the time.

It was witnessing Price’s own journey to sobriety that served as a beacon of hope for Heaton. Seeing Price thriving in her newfound sobriety made Heaton realize that she too could overcome her addiction.

 Reflecting on the moment of realization, Heaton expressed, “I was with my friend Katie Price and she was sober and clean and she was in a really good place… And I thought, ‘oh my God – like we are very similar – and if she can do it, maybe I can’.”

Heaton’s decision to seek help was further solidified by her acceptance of her dire circumstances. She recalled moments of feeling “done” and “exhausted,” having accepted that her addiction would ultimately lead to her demise. However, the glimmer of hope ignited by Price’s recovery inspired Heaton to take the necessary steps towards sobriety.

With tears in her eyes, Heaton revealed, “I don’t want to hurt anybody, but I was hurting them so much. And I couldn’t see a way out. And that tiny glimmer of a way out just made me say, ‘That’s it, I’m done’. And I haven’t had a drink since.”

Heaton’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of support and the resilience of the human spirit. Her journey from the depths of addiction to newfound sobriety exemplifies the strength found in vulnerability and the hope that arises from the kindness of others.
