Prince Harry halts Meghan’s tell-all book plans in a bid to mend fences with the royal family

Recent reports suggest that Prince Harry has intervened to halt his wife Meghan Markle’s plans to publish a tell-all book, as their relationship with the royal family remains strained.

Rumours had circulated that the Duchess of Sussex, aged 42, had intentions to share her perspective in a memoir. This decision came on the heels of Harry’s own book release, “Spare,” in January of the previous year, which generated considerable controversy due to his comments and claims about the royal family.

Meghan purportedly aimed to release a book of her own to “set the record straight” about the turbulent years she and Prince Harry experienced alongside the royals. However, it appears that Prince Harry has chosen to abandon his own plans for a follow-up to “Spare” despite having ample material.

According to a source cited by New!, “He’s also put an end to Meghan’s book. The move didn’t go down well with Meghan at first, but there now seems to be a clear vision for how the Sussexes intend to build bridges with the royal family. They eventually reached a compromise so that Meghan could work on a book about female empowerment. It will be more about her work championing women than taking fresh swipes at the royal family.”

Royal commentator and author Duncan Larcombe shared his perspective on these developments, stating to OK!, “It would cause more angst, if indeed that’s even possible. ‘Spare’ made lots of money, but what it cost Harry personally was big. Another account would be a considerable spanner in the works during a time that he is said to hope to heal the rift with his family. In particular, the clash between Meghan and Kate is still live and is a thorny issue. There’s bad blood on both sides, so this would only fuel it.”

Reports had previously surfaced last year suggesting that Meghan was keen on sharing her side of the story in a tell-all book. Royal author Tom Bower mentioned to The Times, “It will be Meghan’s truth. There will be a readership for it because she’ll undoubtedly settle some scores from her point of view. What she says she said to the Queen, to Kate, to Philip, all that will be in the book whether corroborated or not, and that’s a goldmine.” In September 2023, Tom also claimed that Meghan was actively “writing her memoirs,” foreseeing significant commercial success.

Since stepping back from their senior royal roles in 2020, Harry and Meghan have resided in California. Their relationship with Prince Charles, King Charles, and the Prince of Wales has strained further due to the allegations and claims made by Harry and Meghan in recent years.
