Man stumbles upon disturbing image, solving decades-old mystery

In a chilling turn of events, the remains of William Moldt, who mysteriously vanished 22 years ago, have been discovered, thanks to an unexpected revelation on Google Earth. The unsettling image, visible for years, finally provided closure to a longstanding missing person case that had baffled authorities.

William Moldt went missing from Lanta, Florida, in November 1997, leaving behind unanswered questions. At the age of 40, he failed to return home one night after leaving a nightclub, leaving his girlfriend awaiting his arrival.

The breakthrough came when a person, casually using Google Earth to explore their old neighborhood, noticed a peculiar sight – what seemed to be a submerged vehicle in a pond in Moon Bay Circle, Wellington. The Grand Isles housing development manager spotted the anomaly, prompting authorities to investigate.

In August 2019, police were called to the scene, where a car was retrieved from the pond. Within the vehicle lay skeletal remains, later identified as William Moldt. Astonishingly, the car had been visible on Google Earth since 2007, but its significance went unnoticed until 2019.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office shed light on the discovery, suggesting that Moldt might have lost control of his vehicle and driven into the pond. However, they acknowledged that during the initial investigation, there was no evidence of this occurrence. The car’s visibility improved in 2019 due to a shift in water levels.

Police spokeswoman Therese Barbera acknowledged the difficulty in reconstructing events after so many years, stating, “You can’t determine what happened that many years ago, what transpired. All we know is that he went missing off the face of the Earth, and now he’s been discovered.”

The discovery of Moldt’s remains marks a poignant end to a decades-long mystery that Google Earth inadvertently brought to light.
