Residents express embarrassment as the demolition date approaches

The impending demolition of Captain Tom’s daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore’s, £200,000 spa complex in Marston Moretaine has left local residents feeling like a “laughing stock.” Set to be demolished on February 7, the controversial spa, built without proper authorization, has become a source of embarrassment for neighbors in the once quiet village.

Hannah Ingram-Moore, known for her father’s inspiring achievements during the Covid pandemic, raised nearly £40 million for the NHS. Captain Tom, a Second World War veteran, captured the nation’s heart with his garden laps and was knighted for his extraordinary fundraising efforts.

However, the spa controversy has tarnished the family’s reputation in the eyes of the locals. Disgruntled resident Ian Knight expressed embarrassment, stating, “We were proud of what he’s done, but now we’re the laughing stock. They’ve spoiled everything. It was a good thing what he’s done, and now it’s embarrassing.”

Neighborhood sentiments include frustration over the spa’s impact on property values and its prison-like appearance. Some residents feel devalued, describing the C-shaped building as an eyesore. The lack of communication from Hannah and her husband, Colin, has further soured relations, with neighbors stating they “have never spoken to anybody.”

As workmen prepare for the spa’s demolition, the controversy surrounding Captain Tom’s daughter continues to cast a shadow over the once-celebrated legacy.
