Sad news hit the world of music as the passing of the iconic Irish artist Sinead O’Connor, famous for the timeless hit “Nothing Compares 2 U,” was confirmed to be due to natural causes. The 56-year-old singer was discovered “unresponsive” in a flat in south-east London in July. The Southwark Coroners Court, investigating her death, stated that it has concluded its involvement, ruling her passing as resulting from natural causes.
Initially, an autopsy was conducted after no clear medical cause was evident for her tragic demise in July. The confirmation of her cause of death as “natural” means there will be no public inquest.

Metropolitan Police confirmed that her death was not treated as suspicious, stating that officers responded to reports of an unresponsive woman in a residential address in the SE24 area, pronouncing her dead at the scene.
In her final video to fans posted on July 9, just days before her passing, Sinead emotionally expressed the difficulty of coping with the loss of her son, Shane. Despite her personal struggles, she shared her plans to create music with her new guitar, displaying her apartment and acknowledging the challenging times she faced.
Neighbours recalled seeing her in good spirits before her death. One neighbour mentioned a recent encounter where she appeared happy, mentioning plans to visit Brixton with an Irish friend.
Sinead O’Connor, born in Glenageary, Dublin, rose to international fame in 1990 with her cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Her personal struggles, including a troubled relationship with her mother and childhood trauma, often reflected in her music. Her funeral procession drew crowds of devoted fans, with notable figures from the music industry, including U2’s Bono, The Edge, and Adam Clayton, attending her private service.
Following her passing, her family expressed gratitude for the support received from well-wishers and public figures, thanking those who offered condolences and attended her funeral service.
