Las Vegas defendant, caught on viral video assaulting judge, set to reunite in court for sentencing and new charges

A felon, previously captured on video attacking Las Vegas Judge Mary Kay Holthus, will face her again today in court. The incident occurred last week when Deobra Delone Redden, facing sentencing, violently lunged at Judge Holthus, resulting in chaos in the courtroom. Despite pleas for leniency, Judge Holthus denied the request, leading to Redden’s aggressive outburst.

In the viral video, Redden can be seen charging at Judge Holthus, physically assaulting her, and causing a commotion that involved court officials and officers. The felon now faces additional charges, including battery on a protected person, following the attack. Redden was initially jailed on $54,000 bail.

As he re-enters the courtroom today, Redden will be sentenced for attempted battery resulting in substantial injuries, a charge he pleaded guilty to in November. Additionally, he will face new charges related to the assault on Judge Holthus. The judge, who sustained injuries during the attack, returned to work the next day.

The courtroom confrontation gained widespread attention on social media, prompting concerns about courtroom safety and the well-being of judges and court officials.
