As release nears, Gypsy reflects on troubled past and desperation that culminated in tragic act

In a candid revelation just one day before her anticipated release from prison, Gypsy Rose Blanchard has expressed deep remorse for the murder of her mother, Clauddine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard, whom she acknowledges fabricating her medical conditions for years.

Gypsy, now 32, had been sentenced to ten years in prison in 2016 for her role in the killing. Her mother had maintained a facade, presenting Gypsy as a terminally ill child, subjecting her to unnecessary medical interventions, and manipulating her life.

The turning point came when Gypsy connected with Nicholas ‘Nick’ Godejohn online, leading to a plan that ultimately resulted in Dee Dee’s murder in 2015. Despite being incarcerated for seven years, Gypsy is set to be released on Thursday, 28 December.

Amidst discussions about her future plans, including a desire to meet Taylor Swift upon release, Gypsy candidly shared her regret and inner turmoil in an interview with People magazine.

Reflecting on pivotal moments, Gypsy admitted, “If I had another chance to redo everything, I don’t know if I would go back to when I was a child and tell my aunts and uncles that I’m not sick and mommy makes me sick. Or if I would travel back to just the point of that conversation with Nick and tell him, ‘You know what, I’m going to go tell the police everything.’ I kind of struggle with that.”

Emphasizing her remorse, she added, “Nobody will ever hear me say I’m glad she’s dead or I’m proud of what I did. I regret it every single day.”

Gypsy detailed the deteriorating relationship with her mother, recounting instances of verbal abuse and violence. She likened the dynamics to a domestic violence situation, stating, “As long as you’re complacent everything’s fine. Put your foot down, then it’s bad.”

The tragic decision to end her mother’s life came as Gypsy sought escape from a looming, unnecessary medical procedure. Recalling the pivotal moment, she shared, “I just wasn’t having it. [But] she found me, brought me back and put in place paperwork saying I was incompetent and she had power of attorney over me. I was trying really hard to figure out another way.”

The revelation exposes the complex and troubled dynamics within the Blanchard family, offering a glimpse into the desperation that culminated in a tragic and shocking act.
