Euphoria’s leading star, Sydney Sweeney, has been making headlines not just for her acting chops but for her recent appearance in The Rolling Stones’ music video for their latest track, ‘Angry.’

Despite rising to fame globally since her debut in Euphoria in 2019 and securing roles in prominent series like The White Lotus, and the upcoming Marvel film Madame Web, Sweeney faced criticism over her portrayal in The Rolling Stones’ music video.

The video features Sweeney perched on a red convertible Mercedes in a revealing outfit, rolling amidst billboards showcasing the band’s history. Some critiques labeled the portrayal as ‘objectification’ of the 26-year-old actor.

Damon Albarn, the frontman for Blur and Gorillaz, expressed his dismay in an interview with French magazine Les Inrockuptibles, stating, “I listened to their new song and watched this horrible music video showing them at different stages of their lives on a billboard. And this young woman objectified. What the hell is this? There’s something completely disconnected.”

However, Sweeney disagreed with the notion of objectification, sharing her perspective in an interview with Glamour magazine’s latest cover story. Addressing questions about feminism, she emphasized finding empowerment through embracing her body, asserting, “I felt hot. I picked my own outfit out of racks and racks of clothes. I felt so good in it.”

Amidst her conversation, Sweeney also revealed a personal journey about considering a breast reduction at 18, a decision her mother dissuaded her from pursuing. Reflecting on her choice, Sweeney expressed gratitude, stating, “They’re my best friends. Everybody’s body is beautiful. When you are confident and you’re happy within is when it really shows to other people.”

Sweeney aims to promote body positivity and empowerment, emphasizing that confidence and self-acceptance are the keys to celebrating one’s unique form. Her stance challenges conventional notions of objectification, advocating for embracing one’s individuality and feeling empowered within oneself.
