Former Spice Girl celebrates second wedding to Rory McPhee in glittering Marrakech ceremony
Mel B has tied the knot for the second time in less than a month, celebrating her marriage to Rory McPhee with a glittering “spiritual” ceremony in Morocco.
The 50-year-old former Spice Girl, whose real name is Melanie Brown, first wed McPhee, 37, at St Paul’s Cathedral on 5 July. The London wedding was attended by a host of celebrity friends, including bandmate Emma Bunton, model Daisy Lowe, and comedians Tom Allen and Katherine Ryan.
Now, the couple have taken their vows to Marrakech, marking the occasion with a more intimate celebration at the luxurious Selman Hotel. Sharing the news with fans on Instagram, Brown wrote: “We got married, again! A wedding so good we keep the celebration going with our closest and dearest in our fave place – we had the time of our lives.”
For the Moroccan ceremony, Mel B stepped away from traditional white and embraced bold glamour in a custom red gown dripping with crystals and bugle beads. The dress was created through a collaboration between London bridal boutique Evelie and celebrated wedding designer Justin Alexander.
Caroline Black, of Evelie South Kensington, explained the vision behind the show-stopping piece. “Mel loved the idea of a red dress – something bold, with lots and lots of shimmer – but it also had to feel light and easy to move in,” she said. “We drew inspiration from dresses she tried in the boutique, then worked with Justin Alexander’s team to sketch and refine the design. Mel knew exactly what she wanted, which made bringing her vision to life such a joy.”
The result was nothing short of spectacular: a gown that took more than 850 hours to complete, crafted by a team of six artisans. Its shimmering surface was designed to capture the light and reflect Mel B’s vibrant personality, as well as her life in the United States, where she currently serves as a judge on America’s Got Talent.
McPhee, a hairdresser, matched his bride’s sense of style in an Alexander McQueen ensemble – a crisp white shirt and jacket paired with black trousers and shoes.
The Moroccan celebration marks the second marriage for McPhee and the third for Brown. She was previously wed to backing dancer Jimmy Gulzar, with whom she shares her eldest daughter, Phoenix Chi. Her second marriage, to film producer Stephen Belafonte, ended in 2017 following a high-profile divorce. The former couple have a daughter, Madison Brown, together.
The July ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral was the more formal of the two weddings, drawing a larger guest list and media attention. Bunton was the only Spice Girl present at that event, while other guests included family, close friends, and figures from the entertainment industry.
By contrast, the Moroccan event was all about intimacy and atmosphere, bringing together the couple’s “closest and dearest” in a location that Brown described as a personal favourite. The Selman Hotel, known for its opulent interiors and expansive gardens, provided the perfect backdrop for the second set of vows.
In both ceremonies, Brown made it clear that this marriage was a cause for celebration worth savouring twice. As she put it to her followers: “So good we had to do it again.”
