In a shocking incident, a high school promposal goes awry, prompting legal action and investigations

Promposals, the trendy and elaborate gestures for securing prom dates, took a dark turn in Chandler, Arizona, as a planned stunt went disastrously wrong, resulting in a school facing a potential $1 million lawsuit.

A high school student, aiming to propose to his girlfriend, orchestrated a scenario involving speeding through a stop sign in his Porsche, expecting to be ‘pulled over’ by the school resource officer. However, the ill-fated stunt ended in a horrifying collision with a fellow student on a motorcycle.

Eighteen-year-old William Vannasap, the victim of the crash, suffered a severe concussion and leg injuries, landing him in the hospital. His attorney filed a notice of claim against the City of Chandler, the school resource officer, the principal, and the school district, seeking a $1 million settlement.

Surveillance footage captured the incident, revealing the resource officer discussing the mishap with the student driver, and the principal was reportedly present moments after the crash. The school’s principal and resource officer had allegedly approved the promposal scheme.

The city and school district have been given 60 days to respond to the claim before a potential lawsuit is filed. The district refrained from commenting, citing the pending legal matter.

As the repercussions unfold, the incident serves as a cautionary tale about the risks associated with elaborate promposals and the potential legal consequences that schools may face when endorsing such stunts.
