Shocking footage reveals near-fatal school bus accident, prompts legal action

A horrifying incident unfolded in Jefferson County, Kentucky, as six-year-old Ally Rednour was dragged along by a school bus after her backpack became trapped in the doors. The shocking moment, captured by surveillance footage from May 15, 2015, recently resurfaced as part of a civil case brought against the bus driver, Melinda Sanders.

In the distressing video, Ally can be seen desperately trying to keep up with the moving bus after the doors shut on her backpack. Despite her pleas and struggles, Sanders, unaware of the situation, continued to drive. Ally was dragged over 1,000 feet along the road before Sanders was alerted by a horn honking from a passing car.

The aftermath revealed that Ally suffered severe abrasions to 12 percent of her body, resulting in multiple surgeries. The injuries left permanent scarring on her legs, preventing her from wearing skirts or jeans comfortably. Additionally, Ally experienced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of the traumatic incident.

Sanders was fired a month after the episode, as it was determined that she did not follow the correct procedures for children getting on and off the bus. School bus driver and trainer Katrina Ferral emphasized the importance of ensuring children are at least ten feet away from the bus before it departs, a rule Sanders allegedly violated.

In the civil case, Ally’s family claimed that she suffered severe nerve damage and PTSD, leading to a settlement with Sanders. The exact settlement amount was not disclosed.

Ally’s mother, Amy Ehman, expressed her concern for the safety of other children, stating, “I don’t want any other kid to ever go through what my child has gone through. I don’t want there to be any other Allys.”

The incident serves as a chilling reminder of the importance of adherence to safety protocols in school transportation.
