Cameron Norrie battles past Zizou Bergs to make his first hard-court semi-final since January 2023.

British tennis star Cameron Norrie has returned to form, securing his place in the Moselle Open semi-finals and marking his 25th career ATP semi-final. In a three-set showdown, Norrie defeated Belgium’s Zizou Bergs 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, displaying determination in the deciding set. Norrie’s victory is a notable achievement in a season disrupted by a forearm injury that sidelined him from several tournaments, including the US Open.

The match saw the 29-year-old Norrie nearly clinch victory in the second-set tie-break, where he had two match points but was outpaced by the 61st-ranked Bergs. However, Norrie quickly regrouped, finding his rhythm to dominate the final set.

“I should have taken the tie-breaker, but Bergs played faster and took more risks,” Norrie shared post-match. “I was frustrated but managed to reset, and I’m happy to get through against a solid opponent who’s had a great season.”

Ranked 57th globally, Norrie is working to rebuild his standing in the ATP rankings, having dropped from a career-high position of eighth. He now looks forward to his semi-final matchup against France’s Corentin Moutet, who advanced after top-seed Andrey Rublev withdrew from the tournament. Moutet, ranked 66th, will face Norrie on Friday at 14:30 GMT, in what promises to be an intense battle for a place in the final.

As the British men’s number two, Norrie has shown resilience and grit, underscoring his potential to climb back up the rankings. With his eyes set on the Moselle Open title, Norrie’s resurgence adds excitement to the tournament and gives hope to his fans for a strong finish to the season.

high-stakes moments underscore his potential to challenge higher-ranked players.
