The pensioner claimed that her stay at the Poseidon Playa hotel was ruined due to the presence of ‘too many Spaniards,’ and she cried at the end of the trip.
Freda, who suffers from mobility issues, recounted encountering ‘rude’ Spanish holidaymakers during her stay in 2018, with one incident almost causing her to fall. She also criticized the hotel’s entertainment, stating it was geared towards Spanish guests.
Despite her prior request for flat ground accommodation due to mobility issues, Freda found her room on a slope. The travel operator, Thomas Cook, recommended the Poseidon Playa hotel, but the experience did not meet Freda’s expectations.
After a 1,500-mile journey from Manchester Airport to Alicante, the pensioner discovered that her flight dates had been changed without notification. Frustrated with the entire experience, Freda submitted a complaint to Thomas Cook, seeking a full refund or a complimentary trip.
Thomas Cook initially offered a £75 holiday voucher as compensation, which Freda declined. Following negotiations, the travel company made an improved offer of £566, to be split between Freda and her friend. Despite the grievances, the grandmother denied making derogatory comments about Spanish people.
The incident has raised concerns about communication issues, accommodation suitability, and cultural expectations in holiday destinations
