Alisha Weir captivates audiences with a spine-chilling performance in the thriller “Abigail,” now playing in theatres

Alisha Weir, a 14-year-old Irish actress, is making waves in Hollywood with her latest role in the horror film “Abigail.” Known for her portrayal of the beloved character in “Matilda the Musical,” Weir takes a dark turn as the central villain in this new thriller, which premiered this week. The film, featuring stars like Dan Stevens and Kathryn Newton, unfolds with a group of criminals kidnapping the daughter of a wealthy man, only to discover she is a bloodthirsty vampire.

The story, penned by Irish screenwriter Stephen Shields and directed by the team behind the recent “Scream” sequels, was filmed entirely in Ireland. This setting not only added to the eerie atmosphere but also allowed Weir’s family to visit the set, experiencing the film’s production firsthand. Despite the excitement, the intense use of fake blood during filming left some of her family members, especially her sisters, quite unsettled.

In a recent interview with JOE, Weir shared insights into her role and the transition from playing a kind-hearted character in “Matilda” to a menacing villain in “Abigail.” She humorously noted that it felt like a form of payback for the poor treatment her character in “Matilda” received. Filming in her home country was a significant advantage, as it brought her closer to her family, who supported her during the shooting.

Dan Stevens, one of her co-stars, praised Weir’s professionalism and talent, emphasizing how her presence enriched the film. Kathryn Newton also commended her, joking about how Ireland seems to produce exceptionally talented actors. “Abigail” has received rave reviews since its release, with many critics highlighting Weir’s performance as a pivotal element of the film’s success.

Audiences and critics alike are taken aback by Weir’s ability to switch seamlessly from an innocent girl to a terrifying creature. Her performance is not only a testament to her versatility but also places her among the promising young talents in Hollywood today.
